This was an excellent hotel for the price point. Room was comfortable and clean, breakfast very good and staff professional and helpful. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if in the area.
The Embankment Hotel is in a beautiful location beside the River Ouse. Only a few minutes’ walk from the town centre, this riverside setting overlooks quiet gardens and a Victorian bridge.

Lovely room, shower was great, bed was very comfy. Would recommend this hotel.
With a location overlooking the Great Ouse River in Bedford’s town centre. Bedford Rail Station is only 1 mile from the hotel, providing 40-minute links to central London.
Mercure Bedford Centre Hotel is a wonderfully vibrant hotel, set in the busy market town of Bedford. Relax in the Bar before dining in the Restaurant.

Primarily, the staff. Keep them - they are a major asset to the company and more importantly, your clients. The front desk staff couldn't do enough for me (and others I noticed) I have a disability and was treated like royalty (not really necessary as I can do for myself most things) but this I have observed, was extended to everyone. Always heart-warming to be greeted with a genuine smile and a can-do attitude. The bar staff: well, what can I say... They greet you every time like a long lost family member, remembering your name and what you drink. Again, look after your staff they are your advertisement.

Bedford is a pleasant town with deep history, but not a lot to show for it. The castle is in ruins. I was serendipitously surprised to find the John Bunyan Museum across the street from my hotel. The writer of Pilgrim's Progress, he is perhaps Bedford's most famous citizen, more even than the medieval Lords and Ladies who resided in the castle. The river walk is beautiful. I watching people sculling on the river. Many people commute from Bedford to London for work.

Bedford has a great museum & art collection at The Higgins & just around the corner is the world famous John Bunyan museum.Sadly the High Street is in decline with the recent proliferation of out of town shopping centres, but the river front Embankment,Russell Park & the site of Bedford Castle make for good walks. The town has some nice cafes & pubs & there is a market in the square on Saturdays-mainly fruit & veg & food. There are other stalls outside Boots selling clothes. On the other side of town is the larger Bedford Park, complete with Victorian bandstand & public swimming pool. Bedford has some lovely architecture & interesting old churches & pubs.
There is a new cinema on the outskirts of town.
For clothes shopping etc Rushden Lakes & Milton Keynes are a short drive away,as are many diverse pretty country village pubs for dinner. There is a large independent book shop in town which is worth a visit.

Bedfords most redeeming features are the River Great Ouse with many walks along the embankment and further, 2 large well managed parks, plenty of history. As a base there are 2 amazing aircraft museums within 30 miles, closest is The shuttlworth collection at Old Warden, a bit further is Duxford Imperial War Museum. There are many other interesting attractions only a short drive away. As well as some really good hotels where quality and service are excellent The Barns for example,

Due to the bitter cold weather it was was not the ideal place although the market was on and I got the wreathes for the church yards and cemetery so it saved me another trip to Bedford , there was a winter wonderland in Bedford park that is the first time I have ever known anything like that to be in the park.

The large parks were very well kept and made for a pleasant walk. There is quite a contrast between some areas, the waterfront area is good but some of the suburb areas are quite run down and you may wish to avoid after dark. Plenty of places to eat out.

A pretty town by the river but the town centre is truly grotty. Walked down the gorgeous d'Parys avenue into convivium of homeless street dwellers noisily drunk and swearing and at least two groups of weed smokers outside St Peters church. The high street was full of very rowdy groups. Then the serene river, along the embankment and up past the museum.
Bedford seems to have two sides, tree lined avenues and riverside and a town centre itself that is in the throes of becoming destitute.
Excellent location for walking into Bedford (appx 5-8 mins)Breakfast was a cook it yourself continental style breakfast, with a Microwave and Toaster facilities. So scrambled eggs and beans on toast type breakfast. The hotel provided the Tea bags, cereals and complimentary cakes and fruit but you have to bring your own milk. I bought my own eggs, ham and beans. Basically buy what you want for breakfast: different!!. Owner called in to chat to make sure everything was ok which was a nice touch.
We were really impressed with our stay at the embankment hotel. We had our two young children with us and the room was set up perfectly. Very clean and well presented room. We had a lovely breakfast as well and the staff were really accommodating. We have friends who live in Bedford and would certainly stay here again. Lovely hotel and location and great value for money!
Large twin room with all modern facilities. Breakfast was good with a range of options. location is very central and in a good area of Bedford. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. The hotel decor on the inside and in the rooms is of a good modern standard, unlike the outside appearance, this is one hotel that could do with some cladding.
I had a cooked breakfast, it was well made and hot, there was complimentary cereal and other options available too. Staff were friendly and helpful. The guesthouse is a recently renovated Victorian villa in a quiet avenue close to the centre of Bedford. My room had an enormous (queen sized) bed and everywhere was impeccably clean.
The hotel has definitely upped its game since our lat stay. From the improved spa facilities, to the service at breakfast, everything was an improvement. Over the past few years we had looked elsewhere to stay in Bedford, but as long as the price remains competitive, Bedford Swan will now be our first choice stay.
Convenient to city of Bedford. Supermarket at end of road. Easy to walk around town. Took walk to Embankment and river only 5 minutes away. They didnt serve food but were close to other pubs that did and restaurants. Staff were friendly and quick to respond. Rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable.
Visiting location for a few days and the apartment was awesome. Spacious, modern, comfortable and close to the town and rail station. Modern facilities, super comfortable beds and just perfect for our needs for a more spacious accommodation. Definitely recommend if you need a stay in Bedford.
My home away from home in Bedford is due to the great staff who take good care of me and remember me as a long-term guest. Central, comfy, safe, caring, quiet, dependable, my go-to always in Bedford, and they have reasonable rates compared to other hotels, and a good size room as well!
We had an excellent stay, thoroughly recommend this place. So quiet and comfortable and the hosts took such good care of us. Very close to the Bedford township but you wouldn't know it as right in the country.
Such as nice smelling bousy and glittered hotel. Very clean fridge inside the room, cosy bed, Hotel staff were polite.
Definetly my place of stay the next time i'm in Bedford.
Appreciated
A verve guest
I have stayed in a number of Wetherspoons hotels, and always find them good, honest value for money. Much better value than some other chain hotels. Rooms always clean and bed always comfortable.
