Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe kitchen, dining and living space is not huge given how many bedrooms there are / people it can sleep. Not a problem for us as there were only two of us but if you were coming in a larger group and planned to cook and eat meals in you might want a different set up. It's ideal if you are using it as a base to explore Essaouria and there are so many great food options nearby.
Perfectly located for exploring the Medina, this beautiful and characterful riad is very centrally located whilst still allowing you a quiet night's sleep. The highlights for us were the incredible sea and city views from the terrace and how friendly, accommodating and lovely Hafida (the host) was. It is a really fun and memorable place to stay.

IcelandNothing!
Great location in old Medina, wonderful house with great decorations that we had all to ourselves. Really close to everything, market, coffee houses, breakfast spots and restaurants. Rooftop overlooking the sea - for morning coffee or sunsets. Walking distance to everything. Lovely reception by Hafida who greeted us so warmly. I truly recommend this cozy place!

NorwayMost of the chairs on the rooftop terrace were destroyed and not useable. Get some new and it will be PERFECT!
We loved this house and the fact that we had it all to ourselves. Several common rooms, 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 separate toilet and 1 separate shower room. It has such a fun and cool layout. We especially loved the roof terrace with amazing views and the bar where we made our breakfast every morning. The location is perfect! It is in the middle of the old town but in a quiet spot. We felt quite fit after running up and down all the stairs for 3 days:)! Also, the management was really nice and helpful!

United KingdomIt is a bit cluttered and some of the furniture, especially the tables were not great choices. Also there was a leak during a very heavy rain storm into the central courtyard where the upstairs window shutter was not totally water tight. Lots of opportunities to get one's daily "steps" in as it's a bit like a lighthouse with going up and down the steps. But this is an old building, and a bit a project - so don't expect the sterile experience of a new build flat. Having said that it wouldn't take much to complete the refurbishment, and the idiosyncrasies added to our the experience. It was a privilege to be able to spend a few nights in such a historical building.
Such a fantastic place - felt that we on a movie set. Never stayed in a house with it's own roof bar, and I spent every evening watching the sunset over the sea and the rest of the old town from the terrace. 100m to the Souk, 500m to the Mellah. but was very quiet at night. If there were a tourists around when I opened that fabulous street door, I could feel them green with envy trying to peer into the wonderous interior. Huge space, and unbelievable bargain for the price.

United KingdomPlates and bowls were a bit grubby on arrival - no problem - we just washed them. Disappointingly, there were only 2 very old and dirty sponges/cloths for us to do this, so I purchased some more the next day. An easy fix. As we arrived late at night, after a long flight, then a taxi journey from Marrakech, we would have loved it if there had been just 1 bottle of water in the fridge for us on arrival. The bedroom on the first floor was missing the curtain pole preventing privacy from the room opposite, so I cheerfully used the bedroom on the top floor. I'm sure this has been rectified since. There wasn't enough cutlery for 4 of us. The end of the bed was broken making the bed unsturdy, there was a large damp patch above and around the window with peeled off paint(no problem - it's an old building by the sea - as are all the buildings in Essaouira - I love a bit of rustic!) But bits of old plaster and paint filled my clothes in my open suitcase over the course of the week. Some wardrobe hanging space for a stay of a week or longer would be a great addition to this lovely riad.
Location and style of the riad were fantastic. Especially the roof terrace and it's quirky bar set-up. The sound of call to prayer, crashing waves and seagull cries were very much adored by us. As were the phenomenal sunrises and sunsets. The bedroom with the en suite was fabulous and the neighbourhood and people very friendly. We really enjoyed our stay here. 1 couple and 2 friends in our early 50's used 3 rooms - the ensuite double, the room with 3 single beds and the room opposite that on the 2nd floor. Lots to do and see, great restaurants, a bar and a nightclub nearby. The ramparts and beach are very close by and so magical. It's great being in the throb of the ancient medina, yet - just a few alleys away for it to be very quiet for us. It's worth noting that it's an honour to stay in such a historical building. Like all riads though, there are a lot of steep stairs (53 in total from the entrance on the ground floor to the roof terrace) We were fine with it because of the views from the top. Anyone with mobility issues may struggle. Hafida is kind and cheerful and was excellent at communicating via whatsapp before our journey and kindly arranged a taxi to and from Marrakech for us and patiently waited for us to get in quite late. She also printed off our boarding passes for our journey home. Thank you Hafida. x

United KingdomThere was a burst water pipe in our en-suite on our first morning, we could not find how to turn the water off and did not realise it had happened as it sounded like someone was in the shower. As we had left suitcase and some clothes on the floor they were very wet and we had to stay around whilst things were fixed. Navan was helpful and came straight away, but it had flooded our bedroom the corridor and the bedroom on the same floor. Not very relaxing start. Also one of the windows fell out.
Even though the stairs were very steep up to the rooftop it was nice sitting up there and seeing the sun come up.
