Really recommend this place! The room is big enough and clean. The view is breathtaking, especially when is sunrise. The hosts are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The food is excellent - breakfast & dinner. We had wonderful time here :)

Not really the fault of the property, but getting there is quite a hassle/adventure on steep, bumpy roads. We came on a scooter, and it was okay, but for someone inexperienced it could be annoying.

Deserves the 9 rating at this price point(13 American). Clean, spacious, comfortable, excellent proprietors, good view. Would have stayed longer, but quickly sold out!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our stay at Stone Shack Homestay in Ella was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles and genuine hospitality that made us feel instantly at home. The homestay is located in a peaceful area with a breathtaking view of the mountains, creating the perfect atmosphere to relax and unwind. The rooms were spotless, well-maintained, and designed to make guests feel comfortable. The entire place had a very peaceful and calming vibe, which made our stay even more enjoyable. What stood out the most, however, was the incredible kindness of the owners. They treated us like we were part of their own family — always checking if we were comfortable, engaging in warm conversations, and making sure every detail of our stay was perfect. One of the highlights was the dinner they prepared for us. We requested a traditional meal, and what they served was absolutely delicious and top-notch. Every dish was cooked with so much care and love, and it truly felt like a home-cooked feast rather than a typical hotel meal. Their hospitality was on another level, and it turned a simple dinner into a memorable experience. We are deeply grateful to this lovely family for their generosity and care. It’s rare to find such genuine warmth and attention to detail when traveling. We will definitely be visiting them again on our next trip to Ella, and we highly recommend Stone Shack Homestay to anyone looking for a peaceful, beautiful, and heartwarming place to stay. It‘s a bit difficult to get a tuk tuk (e.g. via PickMe), but fortunately it’s possible to arrange a ride with the father.

The host family is very kind, the room is spacious and clean, you have a great view over Ella in a quiet neighborhood and the food was outstaaaanding!! The varying breakfast was amazing and we had dinner there every night because it was so delicious 🥰

Even for walkers like us it was a little too far/steep to walk into Ella centre so you’ll need to get a tuk tuk each time. Breakfast was delicious with 2 items included then you could order extra items at cost. This wasn’t as generous as all the other breakfasts we had fully included on our 3 week visit.

Incredible views of Little Adam’s peak & Ella Rock from the top room balcony. Great hanging pod chair to relax in with the view. Owners have a tuk tuk which they will provide (paid) lifts in which is handy. We loved walking to Cafe by Serendipity for dinner with a view, great service & great value.

One of the best room we have been so far. Lots of space and very clean, also the bathroom super nice with the stone details. But the best part for sure is the balcony of the room with a stunning view on the mountains, where we had breakfast the next morning. Only recommendation, the street to arrive is not the best, so if you're driving a tuk tuk for the first time like us try to go with the daylight and always follow the instruction of the host.

One of the most incredible places I've ever stayed! The family are so lovely, so kind and calming and just wanting to help you enjoy your stay. The food is excellent, with generous portions. Their prices are very fair. The room and bathroom are clean and spacious. But above anything else -- the VIEW! It's so absolutely incredible, there's nothing like sitting there just observing the hills and valleys, listening to the birds and watching the squirrels and monkeys, with a cup of afternoon tea. Truly a breathtaking location, and an excellent place to recharge your spirit.

This is so far the best place we stayed in Sri Lanka! We took the room with the balcony and what a magic moment to wake up every morning with such an incredible view on the valley and a delicious home made breakfast. The owners are really sweet. We stayed 4 nights but I wish we could have stayed there forever...

It‘s outside, so you must take a TukTuk to get to Ella. We were fine, because we loved the location.

Bed was comfy. Dinner was extraordinary. The nice room has a terrace with a stunning view of the valley, the hills and a waterfall. The host organized a half day trip to four waterfalls with the TukTuk. It was a great trip. The host and her family were so welcoming.

If you're planning a stay in Ella, be sure to stay here. The accommodation is a bit off the beaten track, but it offers breathtaking views. The family, with their three children, grandma, and grandpa, will fulfill your every wish. They'll even organize a tuk-tuk for you at any time at a very reasonable price. We had dinner there in the evening, and it was delicious. Everyone is extremely warm and friendly. You feel like part of the family.

Everything was perfect and just as we expected, the family is very friendly and helpful. The views from the room upstairs are so beautiful.

We stayed in the downstairs room and the bathroom could need some maintaining.

The host was extremely friendly and provided help at every time of the day. I've never met such a warm and welcoming family. The father of the host provides TukTuk service for the guests which is always safer and cheaper than all the other TukTuk we took in that region. Breakfast was awesome and the host cooked extremely delicious food each evening. The view from the house is really nice and its located in the calmth and quiet of the mountains. We really enjoyed staying here and felt home away from home.

There was some mould on the walls; it was not too bad but definitely something to be aware of if you are sensitive. The hot water boiler didn’t get very warm.. as it is quite cold in the mountains it wasn’t ideal.

The view was stunning & serene, perfect to watch the sunrise, rolling mists and wildlife. The place is family-run, warm, kind and super helpful. The room itself has so many little quirks, very creative & sweet.

We were welcomed by the owner at the train station who picked us up and brought us to the location (as it is a bit high on thye mountain), which results in a mindblowing view! We missed some groceries and he even went back to the city onhis motorbike to get them for us. The owners are a family with littlekids who are extremely friendly, so welcoming, they cooked for us in the evening and made us breakfast, which was all extremely tasty! They won't shy away for anything you need, guide you with advice for activities and are SO LOVELY!!!

Location is a bit tough to reach but owners provide tuk tuk service from/to the main road so problem solver!

We stayed in the standard doble room with terrace. Owners were there for us for anything we need! Room was very spacious and clean and free of insects :) we had a nice dinner and then woke up in the morning with stunning views and a very rich breakfast in the most peaceful environment!

What an amazing family. Erindi, her husband, parents and especially her beautiful kids were the sweetest people I have met. They were super welcoming and helpful, while also giving me the privacy I needed. The room has a beautiful view right outside the doors. I stayed here to do the Ella Rock hike and Erindi wrote detailed instructions for me and even gave me water and a torch to carry. I am so grateful to them!
