How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe villa was very clean and exactly as shown in the photos. The villa was very well kept, and Vignesh and his wife were both warm, welcoming, and always happy to assist. We truly appreciated their hospitality. The lakefront setting was beautiful, although the location is a little isolated, with no restaurants or cafés nearby. Dining out required a 10–15 minute drive.
The only dining table was outside, which unfortunately made it difficult to enjoy meals in the evening due to mosquitoes. We also needed to keep the doors closed at night for the same reason. As there is no air-conditioning downstairs, this did make the living area quite warm. We were advised that using the upstairs unit would help cool downstairs, but we didn’t find that to be effective. The biggest disappointment, however, was being told we were not permitted to have any pork-based products in the villa as the owner was Muslim. We found this unusual, particularly in a majority Buddhist country, and concerning that it had not been disclosed before booking or after the booking during a free cancellation period. We have not encountered such restrictions even when staying in villas in majority Muslim countries like Indonesia. This left us feeling uneasy about what other unspecified rules might apply—for example, whether alcoholic drinks were permitted or whether it would be acceptable for a same-sex couple in our group to share a room. The combination of the location, dining challenges, and unexpected undisclosed restrictions means we would choose alternative accommodation next time.
Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. We’re sorry some aspects of your stay weren’t ideal. We’ll use your comments about mosquitoes, dining space, and cooling to improve the experience for future guests. Regarding our dietary policy, we’re a private home and kindly request no pork products on the property. This isn’t about restricting anyone’s lifestyle or about alcohol or same-sex couples — which are absolutely welcome — but simply a respectful request we’ll make sure to communicate clearly upfront going forward. We also ask that any assumptions about religion or culture remain fair, as our aim is to host all guests warmly, regardless of background. Thank you again for staying with us and for sharing both the positives and areas where we can do better.

Verified reviewBeautiful, comfortable and clean property. Pool was amazing and the bathrooms were beautiful. The caretaker was also lovely and really looked after us.
We didn’t find the location to great as quite far from restaurants, Ubers and tuk tuks were often hard to get. Felt quite isolated which was nice but also would have been nice to be closer to town.

Verified reviewThis is a stunning and spacious villa. Exactly as in the photos and impeccably clean. The private swimming pool is perfect for a family holiday. There are large living spaces upstairs with sofa and massive tv with balcolny overlooking the pool and downstairs with more sofas and kitchen area. The outdoor seating area is gorgeous and perfect for breakfast however it would be an idea to have an indoor dining table for evenings to avoid mosquitos, eating at coffee table height wasn't ideal. Watching the sunrise is lovely (the pool is east facing so no chance of sunset from the property, but probably from the beach opposite there would be). Breakfast was lovely made on site with the chef, option for sri lankan or Western food and they were very accommodating for dietary requirements (vegan) the small round coconut rotis with the sambal were the best- would have asked for more if we weren't in a rush for the airport! The staff were all helpful but kept out of the way unless needed, which was appreciated.
Air con in the bedrooms worked well but no aircon in living spaces meant for less sociable evenings as it was too hot. Blue bathroom shower screen had a gap so floor got very wet. Description is not 100% accurate, possibly a language translation error. There are 3 bedrooms, two with doubles/large doubles and the third is either as a large double or as two single beds (not two double beds in one room as is written). I had been looking forwards to my own large bed but didn't get this. The hot tub/jacuzzi is actually part of the main swimming pool, the jets arent very powerful and its a normal pool temperature (not hot). We were only there for one day so I dont think we remembered to look for the games room, we thought it was just a storage room for towels etc and I never found a 4th bathroom. Despite the description errors this is still a fantastic villa and you will enjoy your time here before/after your flight.
