Because it's a period property, some of the amenities reflect an earlier time period, but we had everything we needed and found the details charming. The gardens and surrounding grounds are beautiful, even at the tail end of winter, and you're up in the hills, so the air is crisp and clean. The dining room and lounge are beautiful and the meals were excellent, focussing on mostly local produce. I highly recommend dining on site. After Porto and then Lisbon we found Coimbra to be a welcome relief from the tourist hustle and bustle. Its a lovely town, quieter than the bigger cities but with some great sites. The University Library is spectacular as is the Cathedrals and the old town is very interesting wandering around. Aveiro is a great place with plenty to see and do. Many lovely places to eat and drink. We stayed for 10 days but I think 7 would have been enough. Must not miss a visit to Costa Nova with the gorgeous coloured houses, also a boat ride is a must. The location was perfect for us. Breakfast was worth the price. Had a restaurant if you needed a hot meal on the premises. Close to an Aldi as well as a coin laundromat. We spent one afternoon, evening, and the next morning in Nazare. It was enough time for us to enjoy the beach, wander the boardwalk, do some window shopping, enjoy the beach, and take in the amazing views from the high cliffs overlooking the town. Beautiful fishing village with charm and character as well as lovely activity filled beaches. Lovely restaurants and bars to soak up the sun. 3 nights was perfect to walk the coast and spend some time relaxing and on the beach. We had a car but walked everywhere to get the best out of it. Recommend the Java house bar for drinks and relaxing and check around for restaurants. A wonderful town to visit! Lots of shops with unique gifts, beautiful church, a castle, incredible musicians making the most of the open space and acoustics. LOVED our visit! Restaurants did not disappoint and our stay at Patio House was outstanding! Our hosts were incredible and ensured our stay was memorable and special. We felt very welcomed! Highly recommend making this walled town a stop and linger for a while during any trip to Portugal! The cobblestones and hills are worth it! If Viseu was near the ocean I would've moved there inmediately. Lovely streets to wander around, parks and local shops and restaurants. Lovely architecture to admire and just love the ambience. We loved this city.
We loved this city. It’s not tourist-packed town and it’s a perfect size, with lovely parks and nice shops and restaurants. People better are kind. That will help you with any language barriers if you’re patient. We enjoyed a nice ramen dinner nearby. Prices are reasonable in the city.
