We had a lovely stay at Les Hayes en Sologne. The hotel is beautifully renovated and surrounded by peaceful nature. The interior is elegant and cozy, and the staff were warm and attentive. The chateau is beautiful, photos do not do it justice. It is more impressive in real life. The building, the staircase, the grounds, all are beautiful. The rooms are very spacious. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. An atmosphere of calm prevails throughout. Old beautiful with modern amenities such as a reliable lift and efficient air conditioning and we were there on some very hot days. The parking is secure behind a security gate right next to the chateau. You can have breakfast outside in the beautiful grounds which is a lovely start to the day. It is a 12 minute walk at a slow pace as it was so hot into the old town of Samaur which was also perfect. Very helpful and friendly staff.

FAQs about hotels in Loire Valley

Castles, Vineyards and Views

Boasting a staggering number of castles, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Loire Valley also has picturesque vineyards and riverside towns. Once noble retreats, many of the region’s chateaux are now hotels on Booking.com.

With an imposing castle as well as charming half-timbered buildings, Angers is the meeting point of 3 rivers that flow into the Loire. One of these, the Sarthe, continues to Le Mans, a historic town famous for its 24-hour car race, while Saumur is best known for its horse shows and square castle overlooking the Loire.

Chinon’s large hilltop castle once housed French and English kings, while Villandry castle hosted discussions between the 2 nations. Its beautiful gardens are in geometric patterns, similar to those by Chenonceaux castle spanning the Cher River.

Between the 2 is Tours with its towering cathedral and colourful medieval core. Amboise is a little further east and has a chateau overlooking the region’s typical stone buildings with grey roofs. It also has several Loire Valley hotels with pools.

Blois has yet another royal castle, though its understated exterior doesn’t prepare you for the incredible interior. Nearby Chambord has the largest and most magnificent castle, and the Loire continues to Orléans, a medieval city famed for Joan of Arc and an amazing cathedral. At the opposite end of Sologne Forest is a fabulous cathedral in Bourges.

Well placed hotel, right opposite the beach, and a short walk to the local shops, restaurants and cafés. It had a lovely bar and restaurant overlooking the beach and sea. The was a Casino in the hotel if you like gambling. There was an underground car park and a large car park at the rear of the hotel. The room we had was very large, with beautiful tiles in the separate toilet and bathroom. There was a separate shower, as well as a shower in the bath. The bed was large and comfortable and with tea and coffee making facilities in the room. We would highly recommend this hotel for any length of stay. The staff were very helpful and pleasant.

Nantes is a beautiful city but feels like a town South West of Paris, it has everything that Paris has to offer but without the idea of sophistication. There are little nooks and crannies of restaurants, boulangeries, pubs just off the main track that are exceptional and very reasonably priced too. What made it so good was the public transport system and another bonus was that it was free at the weekend . There was no sense of intimidation or fear when out at night, even when travelling on the busses. I enjoyed my short stay and will be back before too long, another reason to love France.

Located on the banks of the Loire River, Orléans is a historic city known for its strong connection to Joanne d'Arc, who famously liberated it in 1429. The city center offers nice streets, timber-framed houses, and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for walking and exploring. Main highlights include: Sainte-Croix Cathedral – Gothic architecture Place du Martroi – central square with Joan of Arc’s statue Old Town – charming streets, shops, and caffés Museums – Museum of Fine Arts and Joan of Arc House Surroundings worth exploring: Loire Valley Castles – Chambord, Blois, Chenonceaux, Amboise, Sully, (short drive away) Wine routes & vineyards – ideal for tastings and day trips A great base for discovering the heart of the Loire Valley — with a perfect mix of culture, history, and countryside relaxation.

Angers city is easily accessible from Nantes by train. (35Mins). Take a walk along the far side of the old bridge from the food hall and find the restaurants sited along the river bank, where most of the locals hang out. River boat trips can also be booked from this location. The Chateau museum is well worth a visit and provides a history and views of the city.

Saumur is a gem of a town, there are so many activities that you can participate in, whether cycling, kayaking, walking around the historic town or going for the famous degustation at one of the numerous vineyards that are within easy distance. It is also the gateway to dozens of chateau. There are cruises on the river to suit most budgets and restaurants from the basic to the expensive. There are also various markets and festivities that take place. If you have time the Petits Train is a must, forty minutes being driven around the historic town gives you a new perspective on life, especially the view from the right bank which lets you enjoy the historic panorama on the left bank.

I needed to find a bed without any dinner or other facilities late in the day and only for the night as would be moving on early the next day. Therefore cost was the primary concern. It was cheap and the bed comfortable, though the room noisy when other guests were moving around the building or noisy in their rooms. Don't take breakfast option, it was poor value and not as you might expect when at reception. Behind reception is a pleasant looking restaurant, however breakfast for this hotel is in a side room which is not so pleasant and with not a great selection of food and drink. Check in staff did not make this clear when option offered at check in.

Honestly, this is just not ok in 2025.

Honestly, this is just not ok in 2025. I sleep about 160 nights per year in a hotel, normally 3 stars. F1 after their refurbishments is simply better. Wherever I go in "premiere classe", it's always like: "animals might just sleep here but not us". INVEST guys, how this chain survives, I don't know. Don't be mistaken, just a low price is not enough to survive. Knowing your business is, and that is never the case, in whatever "hotel" of them you sleep. Personally, this is my refuge when I need to sleep and have no other, more human options. All depending of my routing. Just do something, enjoy your business, make a proud company for owners and employees. Either the hotel chain doesn't have any money to invest or they don't want to. Either way, this goes bust one day as I strongly believe, after at least 10 years with, thank God, maximum 10 nights in this chain, will never happen.

This was an overnight stop on our way back to the ferry port near Caen, so more of a functional one than a sightseeing one, though we did head to the château at Villandry after leaving, which was only about 25 minutes' drive via the scenic route through Savonnières. There was a choice of decent restaurants in easy walking distance for dinner and breakfast was fine. The room was very hot when we arrived and the aircon not working but the lad on the desk explained that it can either be set to cool or to heat for the whole building and the weather suddenly changing from cool to hot had left the 'wrong' option enabled. We were able to cool it down by opening the door and window but that did admit quite a lot of traffic noise.
