They have created such cozy spaces for guests and the provide great amenities like coffee and tea, toast and other small breakfast items. I appreciated the small fridge in the room, pressure in the shower and how quiet it was at night. I also walked to town and it was easy and fun. There’s a lot to do in this part of the world! I celebrated my birthday in the hotel! This was absolutely fantastic experience! The room itself is very comfortable, you have everything you need to enjoy the nature, farm and vineyards. Nice, quiet place right off the main road surrounded by many wineries easily accessible by bicycle. Mandy was a great host and friendly. Homemade delicious croissants at breakfast. Nice kitchen area to prep for lunch or dinner. Beautiful landscaped grounds.

Featuring garden views, Hopewell Lodge in Kenepuru Sounds features accommodation, a garden, a private beach area, a shared lounge, a terrace and barbecue facilities. Outstanding friendly staff, they make you feel like home, and they make an incredible good pizza (we had the chicken plum - highly recommend) The place is really magical, you stay at the Fjord and can discover it kayaking, hiking or biking. If you're lucky you can see bioluminescent plankton glowing in the sea at night, beautiful stars and glow worms. You can watch the sunrise from the hot tup. It's a place to enjoy! You should stay there at least 2 days. The only thing we didn't like was that we didn't stay longer ;) If there would be an 11. Star, they would have earned it! ... And there is a chimney burning all day ... We had breakfast in front of it :)

Upon hearing about the prospect of staying at Lochmara Lodge upon arrival at Picton from North Island, we jumped at the opportunity. Definitely no regrets, as although the lodge is not high end, everything else makes up for it. This was one of our top highlight stays across 5 weeks in New Zealand! We felt so welcomed by staff, before and during our stay! Prior to booking, all questions, including transport via water taxi, were quickly and diligently answered. Upon arrival at the water taxi, we were warmly greeted and helped by staff to ensure a swift check-in ahead of schedule, and the same was experienced upon arrival. The place is set deep in the Marlborough Sounds, and it offered the most amazing scenery and nature all around. It was breathtaking, especially as the sun set and first thing in the morning. The fact that it cannot be reached by car made it extra special and unique. We had two rooms, one water facing and one facing the back-end (this room was perhaps a bit sad). The room was small, quite simple but we did not spend much time inside, as there was so much else to do! We loved the chill and vibe of the place, and the level of activities available to us during our stay. We did hiking, the feeding time activities with the pigs, goats, birds etc on site (we loved the insight provided with all), kayaking, paddle boarding, the games and general relaxation. We also visited the underwater observatory - which was super interesting - and great interaction and insight into the creatures of the New Zealand waters. The restaurant offered an all-day service, including breakfast and dinner for us overnight house guests. The staff was always friendly and welcoming, and the food and drinks were of a high quality. I think we could have easily done a third night at this place, and it provided such a great introduction to what more to come during our time on the South Island.

Spectacular one-bedroom with a panoramic view of Picton, the harbor, and sound. Floor to ceiling windows and a wrap-around deck (with a grill, sofa, and dining table) allow you to enjoy the view inside and out. Excellent kitchen, TV (if you can ignore your surroundings), very comfortable bed, great bathroom. Alexa can open and close blinds, and manage lighting and music. My husband declared he would not leave until the cleaners arrived or we needed to walk to the train.

Very quiet and peaceful location. Quite handy to Picton and bays along the way. Hot tub was prepared for us and quite a bonus. Welcomed and shown the facilities by a local for the owner.
