This was the best value for money stay I had this trip. Highly recommend opting for dinner to be included with your stay. The steamed vegetables and meat with rice and soup was a sumptuous, healthy yet delicious meal especially at the end of a day's big hike. The dorm beds were comfortable, and it was a really nice luxury to get a private onsen experience (especially the outdoor one). Though there was no convenience store around, the hostel has a very good range of snacks, instant noodles, buns at good prices so you don't have to worry about not having food around.

I really loved the ajinkan meditation and how the monk was kind and cheerful and pleasant. It was such a nice experience to learn something new and to have such a pleasant person that you can ask about meditation. It was so nice! The dinner was really fantastic and I was most pleasantly surprised how warm the room was because it was cold season.

200 metres from Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art, 民宿 和合 Minshuku WAGO is a recently renovated property set in Tanabe and offers air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and private parking. Very convenient stop along the Kumano-Kodo route. We brought our own food for dinner and the host set up a nice table outside for us. Everything was very clean and the host is really nice.

39 km from Kishi Station in Koyasan, 高野山 宿坊 光明院 -Koyasan Shukubo Komyoin- provides accommodation with access to a hot tub. It is situated 45 km from Matsushita Park and offers luggage storage space. A really nice shukubo experience - definitely recommend it. You get a sense of the daily life of the monks, and it is well located next to all the main sights in Koya. In the morning, you can participate in two rituals, and they are as depicted on the photos. Hope to be back some day!

Our stay at Fuki Juku was undeniably a highlight of our trip to Japan! The charming hosts picked us up at the Hashimoto Train Station and drove the 30 minutes to their guesthouse, with a stop at a beautiful view for pictures. The pick up and drop off is included in their rate. We were fortunate in that our family of four were the only guests that night and we had the whole floor to ourselves. At 6:30pm the most amazing dinner was ready and presented artistically with a touch of folk art and nostalgia to create a memorable atmosphere. After dinner we had fireworks (sparklers) and then walked through the peaceful village. Breakfast was equally delightful and then they brought us to Koya for photos and dropped us off at the information centre in Koyasan. The service and hospitality was above and beyond and was a wonderful way to get started on our Kohechi Trail in Kumano Kodo!! This was a truly unique Japanese experience away from the tourist areas. We highly recommend it!

高野山 宿坊 桜池院 -Koyasan Shukubo Yochiin- on ajalooline tempel ja külalistele sobiv majutus. Hotell asub pühas Koya mäe piirkonnas. Beautiful and unforgettable experience. The Monks staff very kind, they accept tourist into their world. The vegetarian food (no meat, no fish, no onion, no garlic) was delicious. We are honoured to be part their buddhist ceremony in the morning. Thank you for everything.

Boasting a hot tub, Samsara Inn 今だけオープン特別価格 is set in Tanabe. During your time staying in this recently renovated bed and breakfast, dating back to 2025, you will have access to free WiFi. Everyone was so nice and accommodating! The decor and lighting was really cool, and it was very helpful to have so much space and laundry machines inside the room. The onigiri and vegan ice cream cone were also really good!
