周边信息
Parkview is one of Johannesburg’s oldest suburbs, originally part of the Braamfontein farm. The area’s name originates from its stunning view of what was once the Herman Eckstein Park, now Zoo Lake. The streets are all named after Irish counties, a nod to the influence of Major John W. O'Hara, who was Irish and played a key role in the development of the area.
In the early 1900s, Parkview’s development was influenced by the Transvaal Consolidated Land and Exploration Company, which began residential development here in 1907. The suburb retains much of its original architectural charm, with its grid-like layout and tree-lined streets.
The area also boasts cultural landmarks such as the Alliance Française of Johannesburg, and the rich history of Parkview is a great draw for those interested in exploring the past.
