Just 17 km north of Durban, in the heart of Umhlanga Rocks, Anchors Rest offers elegant rooms with free Wi-Fi. The guest house features an outdoor pool, a large garden, and free private parking. Our guest house offers warmth, privacy and great service. Although we live on site, we respect our guests privacy and don't intrude unless they would like interaction with us, or our staff. We are always available to help with planning guests activities, make restaurant or car hire reservations and give general information on activities and sight seeing in the area. One of the best features of Anchor's Rest is that it is within easy walking distance of the restaurants, shops and golden beaches of Umhlanga. It is so easy to stroll down to restaurants in the evening, have a great meal at one of the many vibey restaurants, have a few glasses of wine or beers and then stroll back without having to worry about 'drinking and driving' regulations. We have a well stocked honesty bar on the premises which is ideal for a pre dinner drink, or a late night cap. If you are booked in on a self catering basis you can still choose to pop into the dining room for breakfast if you don't feel like preparing your own breakfast. If you are leaving early in the morning we will put a continental breakfast in your room so that you don't start out the day on an empty stomach.

Peter and I have been running Anchor's Rest for the past 18 years so we have a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry. We both come from corporate backgrounds so we understand business travellers needs as well as leisure travellers as we have travelled extensively ourselves. Peter is Director of Tourism for Umhlanga Rocks and part of the North Coast so he is constantly involved in tourism related matters on a local and provincial level, which keeps us in the loop. Peter's specialty whilst in the corporate world was sales and marketing and Cilla comes from a human resources background. Our wonderful manageress, Sandy comes from a financial background so we have all areas covered which enables us to run a great, successful business.

Umhlanga Rocks is the premier holiday resort in Kwa-Zulu Natal and one of the top resorts in South Africa. We have blue flag beaches, great vibey restaurants just one block from the Guest House, plus the largest shopping centre, Gateway in the southern hemisphere just 1 km away. Gateway offers an Imax Theatre, 5 Cinema Nouvea Theatres plus 22 commercial cinemas. There is a multitude of shops, restaurants, sports shops, specialty shops within Gateway to cater for every traveller's needs. The golden beaches run for many kilometres and are ideal for early morning walks, or jogging, plus of course surfing and fishing. There is a well maintained Promenade which runs along the sea front for 2.5 kms which is popular for families, walkers and joggers throughout the day. There are three restaurants located on the Promenade which are ideal for dropping in for a cup of coffee, glass o wine or beer, plus a meal should you feel hungry. At the end of the Promenade is the Hawaan Forest which offers a delightful, shaded walk through this coastal forest where you might be lucky to spot a Duiker or family of mongooses. Umhlanga Rocks is the best place to be for a relaxing holiday year round.
