We went with the hope to see an Aurora and we were not disappointed. Great location to see the Aurora with no light pollution but only 20min from town and no cost other than the accommodation (that is no tour costs). Bed was comfy. Private...

The house was very clean and the view from the deck was amazing. Our host, Stephen, made us feel very welcome and comfortable. He was also a good source of information about places to visit.

Welcome to Alpine Vista Viewing Deck and Peaceful Retreat, a warm and friendly Alaskan home located in the hills above Fairbanks, only fifteen minutes from downtown. The house is far enough from the city so you can see the Northern Lights at night (with no light pollution) and our local wildlife (including moose and fox) during the day (if you keep your eyes open). You can park your car in a warm garage in the winter so no snow to clean off, windshield to scrape, or cold seats in the morning. During the winter the view of the Northern Lights is magnificent from the back deck and during the summer trees surround the property giving you a sense of peaceful isolation. So come and enjoy the Northern Lights or the long evenings in summer, viewing the sky and sunlit hills from the deck. If this sounds like what you are looking for, start your Alaskan story here and watch it unfold. I hope I have the opportunity to welcome you to our unique part of the world and hear of your traveling adventures.
Hi, My name is Stephen and I have lived in Alaska for over 20 years. I first came to Alaska by getting a job working on a small, isolated island at the end of the Aleutian island chain. After that I came to Fairbanks and worked until I retired a few years ago. Over these years I have gained enough knowledge about Alaska and the Fairbanks area to be able to answer most of your questions during your visit and I can also help you with suggestions on what to do or where to go in the local area. In my younger days I traveled to many places in the world but I don't travel much anymore. That is why I like to host for visitors coming to Fairbanks as I get to meet and talk with people from so many different places. I also enjoy seeing how guests (many from cities) respond to being surrounded by so much wilderness. In fact, I tell all my guests that the hills they see looking out from my deck are just as wild as more remote parts of the state. I should also note that living in a tourist destination like Alaska, you tend take for granted the things that are around you. Having visitors staying here helps renew my appreciation of where I live. Thank you for giving my home a look and I hope you choose to come visit me.
Our summer guests love the peace and quiet of sitting on the deck, trips to Chena Hot Springs Resort, scenic drives along the Steese Highway, and hiking the areas many trails. Winter offers the opportunity to go dog mushing (though kennel tours happen year-round), skiing or snow-shoeing, and to see fantastic ice sculptures (World Ice Sculpture Championships in February and March) and of course the Northern Lights. The Fountainhead Auto Museum and Museum of the North are good indoor activities when it's too cold or rainy to enjoy being outside.
