Anthurium Hale is a small homestay, operated by the owner who lives on site and is available should you need additional assistance locating the address (particularly finding addresses in the late evening can be a challenge) as well as questions or additional needs during your visit.
Paradise Cottage is accessed through your own gated garden; very private as our objective is to create a little piece of paradise within the confines of the city, close to all of the conveniences, yet a place where one can relax, enjoy the solitude and smell the flowers. The interior decor is a rather eclectic mix of the tropics and antiques that reflects both our passion for things of old, the arts and our love of nature. The enterance featuress an arched covered bridge, next to your own koi pond. Our property adjoins where we keep a numer of small exotic birds plus many wild visitors for our morning and evening feedings; Java Sparrows, Saffron Finchs, Cardinals, Rice Finches along with numerous Doves, Mijeto and Myhna Birds. It is extensively landscaped with blooming tropical flora, ferns, palms and of course Orchids and Anthuriums.
Hawaii became my home in the 1960s and I have lived in on the Big Island since 2000. In my early years I frequently crewed on a charter fishing boat out of Kewalo Basin on Oahu which gave me the opportunity to travel by sea throughout the islands. I have visited all of the inhabited islands and have crossed the channels more times than I can count.
I have two children, growth and on their own. I am the owner and operator of the online antiquarian entity, MANDARIN BOOKS HAWAII that deals exclusively in rare and vintage Pacific Isle books and art. This interest, fueled by a bit of passion for the sea further culminated in my "sailing" on a cruise ship from the mainland to Hawaii in the 70s and more recently having crewed, from Hawaii to the Tuamotus and French Polynesia on a 36 foot sailboat as well as in New Zealand and up to Tonga and Pago Pago on a 43 footer. I have also had the privilege of traveling many times on the mainland and visited have Western Canada, Paris, Prague, Italy, Portugal and most recently Japan.
Our neighborhood is a bit allusive in that the entrance is a private, dead-end lane off a side street from the main heavily traveled Kawailani Street, i.e. most people do not know we are here unless they have had occasion to visit. This gives us a great deal of privacy and security, Although we are a bit tucked away, we are still just minutes away from all services and conveniences. Perhaps I should also mention that like a large portion of East Hawaii, we do have Coqui Frogs, tiny little tree fogs, seldom seen but often heard chirping at night, often mistaken for birds by those unfamiliar. These little fellows, hailing from Puerta Rico have made themselves quite at home in Hawaii and admittedly we have become very used to hearing their evening melodies.
