Huntly House has been physically relocated 3 times in her 111 year history. She now sits on the edge of the Manukau Harbour in South Auckland some 500+kms away from her original location. The Studio originally housed the home's electricity generator and boiler system which was a crucial piece of infrastructure in making the home 'modern' for her time.
The Studio is now a very comfortable bedsit ideal for short stays while you visit our peaceful area.
Huntly House sits on almost 9HA (22 acres) of land most of which has cattle grazing on the property. For safety reasons, guests are not able to walk across the land but are welcome to stand near the fences to have a look. Be careful though, the wire fences are electric!
From time to time the farmer and property owners will be around and about the property and may see them in the shared parking spaces near your room.
The house is a popular destination with multiple areas for accommodation and meetings. Occasionally you will see other staying guests or visitors to the house.
Hayley has been a host for 3 years since returning to New Zealand from Europe. Huntly House is not only used for short-stay accommodation but also a wonderful location for weddings, conferences, and other small events.
Hayley has lived in Australia, the USA, the UK and Germany (exchange) and loves to welcome others to share her home and knowledge of the local area.
She is currently developing the gardens around the house, which is a work in progress.
Hayley is also committed to supporting her community and is involved in various projects and committees aimed at developing local amenities and deepening community engagement. From time to time other visitors will be at the house.
Situated toward the end of a no exit road, you can walk down to the local boat ramp or public reserve to take in the wide views of the merging Taihiki and Waiuku Rivers at the mouth of the Manukau Harbour. Beach access is available a short walk away and at low tide is a lovely spot to sit with a book.
The Clarks Beach was a popular holiday spot in days gone by and still has remnants of the camping holiday which the Camp Ground at the main beach. This is located near the Yacht Club and Golf Club - which is a popular spot for a carvery meal.
The Clarks Beach area has now mostly permanent residents with a small number of private holiday homes. It's semi rural feel with incredible coastal views make it an ideal place to live, stay and play away from the faster pace of the city.
Clarks Beach is a safe area but we always recommend people lock their cars and belongings away and practice sensible personal safety when out walking.
