Malcolm and Lyn are the owners of Kukupa Heights, home of Akaroa Lavender. Kukupa is an alternative name for the native pigeon or kereru. At various times of the year, kukupa can be found in flocks of 10-20 enjoying our regenerating native forest.
We manage four accommodations on this property:
Kūkupa Matairangi (lookout of the native pigeon) is our purpose-built glamping hut high up on the hill at the top of the farm with stunning views down Akaroa Harbour. Sleeps 2 adults.
Lavender Cottage is our original haybarn, now fully restored as a cottage featuring macrocarpa wood milled from the farm. It is adjacent to the lavender fields and sleeps four adults.
Kūkupa Puni (camp of the native pigeon) and Kūkupa Taunga (resting place of the native pigeon), are our purpose-built tiny homes provided by Tiny Away. Both have amazing views of Akaroa harbour. Both sleep 2 adults.
As well as managing the accommodation we also run Akaroa Lavender. The lavender farm is over 1.5 acres with around 5,000 plants of two species. As well as the main lavender farm we are developing our 50 shades of purple garden - 50 different lavender a taste of the over 450 varieties around the world.
In our previous lives, we have worked extensively in conservation, tourism, marketing and sales - both nationally and internationally.
You can expect a strong theme of kaitiakitanga (conservation) and outstanding manaakitanga (hospitality) from us throughout your stay.
Above all, we see our role as facilitating the opportunity for you to slow down, relax and breathe deeply….
