BYGONE NOSTALGIA.
The Historic Shearers Quarters are situated on a working farm in the Kawhatau Valley 12km from SH1.
Put your feet up, light the old shacklock stove, and enjoy peace and quiet- all while only 10 mins from the superb Dukes Roadhouse Cafe.
Over 120 years old, the HSQ's were originally used as accommodation for Shearers and their cook whilst the shearing was on. Now beautifully restored, come and experience a slice of New Zealand history by staying with us.
Please note this is a Historic Shearer's Quarters. If you have mobility issues there are no ramps only steps. The Scrubcutters Hut is a separate building and you will have to walk into another building, with steps, which houses the bathroom/kitchen and dining area.
Allan and Alex run the Historic Shearers Quarters, and run Carteroni- the home of the Lancia 037 Recreation. Motorsport and equestrian fill their time, along with their two beautiful daughters. Our business is based on a working farm which raises sheep and beef on some of the North Island's finest hill country.
The Kawhatau Valley is not only incredibly scenic but also diverse with a accumulation of many different business enterprises. A long with sheep and beef farms, the Kawhatau Valley is also home to an asparagus farm, fruit orchard and endurance horse stud. An idyllic fishing river, with many tributaries that are available to fish. We have access to a DOC reserve through private land for hunting use. We are 75mins from Tūroa ski field. Plenty of mountain biking options available.
