The property is a 400 year old ground floor apartment that survived the bombings of World War II despite the fact that Bormla was the most bombed city in world at that time due to its strategic importance. It has a beautiful arched ceiling upon entering the apartment and the next room leads to the bedroom that has a high ceiling. This room was probably a bakery many years ago as the funnel markings could be seen on the stone wall. From the bedroom there are a few stairs that lead to small storage room however this room is closed off for guests. Due to the face that there are a few stairs I would suggest that any family who is coming with small children to inform the host beforehand in order that the Safety Gate will be put in place. Beyond the bedroom is a well equipped kitchen (toaster, coffee machine, microwave, oven and a fridge freezer) and next to the kitchen is the Bathroom room. The bathroom has a shower, wash basin and toilet. Just off the kitchen one has also access to a small yard where one can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. Both the living and bedroom have a ceiling fan and AC's (which is a must during summer months). The bed Matress is a newly installed Softfoam Matress and size is 200 x 150cm. The apartment is situated in an narrow street so it's usually very quiet at night. It is also just a 3 minute walk away from Dock 1, a beautiful Yacht Marina that has many coffee shops and restaurants and the ferry boat that goes to Valletta every 30 minutes.
The host is an Ex National Team Waterpolo player now Estate agent and recruiter that enjoys assisting his guests to make their stay as enjoyable as possible. Has been hosting guests for over 8 years so he will always be on hand to assist with any questions guests may have. Apart from being a keen sea swimmer where he swims all year round he also enjoys food and wine from different regions. Throughout his business and playing career he has had the opportunity to visit many different countries. His favourite food is Indian and Italian.
The area of Bormla (also known as Cottonera) is a very old traditional village. It was the first inhabited town in Malta due to its strategic importance being exactly next to the only port of the island. Bormla forms part of the 3 cities which are Vittoriosa, Senglea and Bormla. These are also known as Birgu, L-isla and Cottonera. The harbour inlets have been in use since Phoenician times: the docks always providing a living for local people, but also leaving them vulnerable when Malta's rulers were at war. As the first home to the Knights of St. John, the tree cities's palaces, churches, forts and bastions are far older than Valletta's. The local communities here celebrate holy days and festas as nowhere else on the islands. The most spectacular events are the Easter processions when statues of the 'Risen Christ' are carried at a run through crowded streets. The Dock 1 area today is a beautiful Yacht Marina where one can find many top class restaurants and coffee shops. If one is interested in swimming, Rinella bay is just a 15 minute walks away.
