The Vision Behind Ruuk Village
Ruuk Village was born from a love for Sri Lanka and a deep commitment to empowering its people. Roshan De Silva, a Sri Lankan by birth, served his country for five years before pursuing higher studies in Europe. In 2011, during a holiday to Sri Lanka to learn kitesurfing, he discovered Kalpitiya—a place close to nature that captured his heart on the very first day.
This experience marked the beginning of a socially oriented project with a clear purpose: empowering locals to have a fair share of tourism while minimizing its impact on their social lives. Driven by a belief in small-scale social development, Roshan partnered with Thileeban to create Ruuk Village, a tranquil paradise that stands apart from the negative aspects of mass tourism.
Both Roshan and Thileeban, though no longer based in Sri Lanka, have left their hearts in Kalpitiya. They remain deeply connected to the project, providing ongoing support and guidance to the local team. Their ultimate goal is to see the team thrive in delivering exceptional service and building fulfilling careers in hospitality.
Ruuk Village isn’t just a business, it’s a movement toward responsible tourism. Its foundations are built on the belief that by creating positive change in their own "micro cosmos," individuals can make the world a better place.
“If each one of us makes positive changes in their own micro cosmos, soon the world will be a better place to live in.” – Roshan De Silva
