The house, Þinghúsið, was built as a community house for the whole valley in the year 1924. It was built in a wooded area on the banks of river Laxá in Aðaldalur. In the year 1988 the house was turned into a guesthouse with 6 bedrooms with a sink, beds for two people each, three shared bathrooms and two showers. On the ground floor you can find a dining room/lounge where you can sit down and relax after a day of travelling. If needed you can use the kitchen and washing machine but please contact the owners first, they live rigth next to the guesthouse. Þinghúsið, or Guesthouse Hraunbaer is a really quiet place but still close to most of north Iceland‘s natural wonders.
We moved to Hraunbær in 1996 and we have been running the guesthouse ever since. Before we moved to Hraunbær we lived in Mývatnssveit and our jobs there were in the tourism business. We try our very best to give our guests all the facilities and service they need and since we live rigth next to the guesthouse we are always easy to find. If we are not at home at the time you need us you can always find information about where to find us in our house, Hraunbær. Our goal is to make your stay here as enjoyable as possible.
We are located rigth between Húsavík and Mývatn: Húsavík (which is a great place to go whale watching): 20 km. – Mývatn: 35 km.
Other interesting places: Ásbyrgi: 75 km. – Dettfoss 90 km. – Goðafoss 20 km. – Swimmingpool in Laugar: 15 km. – Grenjaðarstaður Folk Museum 7 km. – Akureyri 73 km – Egilsstaður 202 km.
