Nagymaros is a charming small town located on the left bank of the Danube River in the Danube Bend, approximately 50 km from Budapest. It is considered one of the most beautiful settlements in the country due to its picturesque surroundings, nestled in the valley of the Danube, hills, and valleys descending from the mountains. The area is rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage. The town was founded in the Middle Ages, and its first documented mention dates back to 1257, but archaeological finds from the Stone Age suggest that it was continuously inhabited. It was a village for much of the 20th century, but regained its city status in 1996.
