If you want crowded beach holidays with entertainment and nightlife round the corner, this is not the place for you.
This is tranquil island getaway. A property completely off the grid, with fully environmentally sustainable infrastructure, with solar electricity and a cistern to collect rainwater.
Here you can enjoy a serene, eco-friendly holiday stay and the chance to disconnect from modern life. It’s a place where all you can hear is the humming of the secoyas and the occasional rustle of leaves. Here all you can see is the earthy terrain below, enveloped by the endless blue of the Aegean Sea.
One of a kind in both its primitive architecture and remote location.
The cottages in Koukouvagia are not connected to central electrical and water services. Therefore, both hosts and guests need to follow some sustainable practices to enjoy a beautiful and carefree holiday.
In order to proceed with a reservation please make sure you have read and accepted THE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE BLUE COTTAGE.
The Blue Cottage, with two bedrooms (double bedroom and a fire place and two single beds), in the adjacent sitting space is perfect for families. There is a kitchen, a sitting area around an indoor oven and a dining area. The cottage has a bathroom with shower.
A few words about the island:
Kea is a beautiful, typical Cycladic island which has a unique architecture amongst other Cyclades islands. Along with the white washed houses in the main village, most country houses are left with stones showing outside. The island has a small museum with antiquities of 6000 bC (found in the '60s), as well as ruins from old temples in the ancient port of Karthaia and a small ancient theater (performances during the summer). This a wonderful hike of 1 hour from where you leave the car, following the old path, or a nice day trip with a boat.
All around the island there are wonderful beaches, many tavernas and restaurants as well as traditional bakeries and coffee shops.
IMPORTANT:
Because the cottages are not connected to central electrical and water services, in order to proceed with a reservation please make sure you have read and accepted THE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE BLUE COTTAGE:

1. Charge mobile phones in the morning 10am - 5pm

4. Use electronic devices up to 1000W (such as hair dryer), only from 10am to 5pm, and not simultaneously
5. Notify the host when you would like to use an electronic device over 1000W (such as hair dryer) as to ensure other devices are not used simultaneously in the other cottages

Please note that we have two friendly dogs in the property that may visit you. Bianca and Rossa were rescued as puppies in August 2019. They give their love to whomever asks for it! They will probably visit you, but you can always send them back home.
Last but not least, if you notice a green friend feeling sad next to your door, please add one glass of water.
Thank you, wishing you a wonderful stay!
We, Ada and Alypios, have traveled in different places and lived in Greece (Athens and Kea), USA (California), and Italy (Florence). Alypios is retired professor at CalPoly and Ada is an artist. We love to travel, get to know new people, cultures and gastronomy!
We may involve our guests in all sorts of creative activities, ranging from building techniques to cooking, a ride with the boat to spearfishing. It’s all done in a pleasantly informal manner, and don’t worry if you are in a lazy frame of mind. You can decide on the spot what you are in the mood for, and if that is just swimming and relaxing in the shade, that is fine too.
Weather permitting boat excursions with aperitif and appetizers may be offered at extra cost.
Amidst the island’s mountainous terrain, lay four stone cottages tightly nestled in the crest of Koukouvagia. The small set of structures resemble a prehistoric settlement, preserved in time and untouched by modernity.
Koukouvagia captures Kea‘s rural beauty in a nutshell, opening the door to new alternative forms of tourism on the island.
It’s a place where an engineer has built an autonomous, sustainable ecosystem while an artist has harmonized primitive structure with contemporary design. With solar-powered electricity and a rainwater reserve, this is a little village isolated from civilization, yet self-sufficient.
It’s a place where all you can hear is the humming of the secoyas and the occasional rustle of leaves. Where all you can see is the earthy terrain below, enveloped by the endless blue of the Aegean Sea. Where you feel the smooth rays of the sun on your skin, warming your body and soul.
All four cottages are made from local stone. All except THE GREY COTTAGE have at least one fireplace each (one has an indoor stone oven too) and almost all rooms have a ceiling made out of massive stone slates.
Spaces are small, but sweet and cosy.
Please note that the asphalt ends to Diaseli, an intersection on the main road 1 km before Otzias. The distance from Diaseli to Koukouvagia is approx. 1,800 m. Most part of this road is a dirt road. You must have a car to move around, as the property is on a hill. (Beach is less than 10’ away by car).
