The Calf Cotts are located at Weston House Farm in the hamlet of Weston, near Pembridge in the beautiful countryside on the border between Herefordshire and Powys, Wales. It is the perfect base from which to explore this unspoilt part of England and the spectacular hills and valleys of Mid Wales.
The accommodation is a lovingly restored 16th Century farm building. Beneath the 21st Century insulation and fireproofing is the original oak framed building that provided housing for cows and their newborn calves. The building was converted into accommodation by Sue's partner Ron who trained as a cabinet maker and then ran his own kitchen and bathroom business and his eye for detail can be seen throughout the apartments.
One lodging has two bedrooms and can accommodate 4 guests and the other two lodgings are designed for the single traveller. Each is fully self-contained with everything you need for a cosy retreat - efficient heating, well equipped kitchens, super comfortable beds and powerful showers. There is ample off-road parking, free Wi-Fi and a patio area where you can enjoy your morning coffee or relax with a glass of wine at the end of the day.
There are many picturesque walks in the surrounding area and as a guest, you are also welcome to explore our private orchards and woodlands, natural habitats for native plants and wildlife.
Local maps are available in the library (No 3 unit) and we are happy to supply guests with additional information about the many attractions that the border counties have to offer. We hope you enjoy our lovely farm and beautiful countryside as much as we do.
Sue has lived here all her life and remembers an idyllic childhood on the farm making dens in the hay bales, bottle feeding orphan lambs, riding her pony and generally running wild. She made horse riding her profession and still rides and teaches on a daily basis and has a small stables with several horses. She also has a much loved Burmese cat and her partner, Ron has a very friendly Labrador. Both Ron and Sue are enthusiastic travellers and have visited many countries. Weston House Farm has welcomed visitors from all corners of the globe and the Calf Cotts enable Sue to continue this tradition. She and Ron love to meet people from diverse places and backgrounds and are always interested in hearing their stories whether it is their work or their travels and adventures.
It is said that the Herefordshire air has a soporific effect on visitors! The pace is slow and relaxed and yet there is still plenty to do if you love the countryside as much as we do. Visitors can enjoy exploring our private woods and orchards or the many walks in the local area including the stunning Hergest Ridge at Kington with views across 6 counties. Offa's Dyke meanders along the border between England and Wales and the landscape is rich in historic castles, ancient churches, stately homes and beautiful gardens. Ludlow, famous for its restaurants and food fair is just a short drive away and the quirky black and white village of Pembridge is within walking distance. Nearby is Hay on Wye, famous for its book shops and annual Hay Festival of Literature and Arts. Also within easy reach is the town of Leominster with its many antique shops and the city of Hereford with its Cathedral and the extraordinary Mappa Mundi.
