Lyme Regis is a historic seaside town, rich in natural history and an area of outstanding natural beauty, set on the Dorset Jurassic coast. There are stunning coastal walks, a scenic river Lym walk, from Uplyme to the town Mill courtyard with further restaurants and shops. Great local food, artisan shops, local artist galleries and Marine Theatre in Church St. Sea side activities and regular events throughout the summer ie: Jazz festival, food festivals and RNLI lifeboat week. There is windsurfing & paddle boarding as well as fishing trips & volleyball on the beach. There’s a bowls club near the Cobb and crazy golf at Langmoor gardens. Lyme has a stunning Golf club and restaurant on the cliffs at Timber Hill and a cricket club and tennis courts for hire in Uplyme. Some parts of Lyme can be quite hilly. There are several beaches. The one towards the Harbour is a sandy beach. The others are predominantly pebble, but have some sand at low tide. Several films were filmed here. “The French Lieutenants woman” with Meryl Streep, has a famous scene on the Cobb and more recently “Ammonite” with Kate Winslet, dramatises the life story of Mary Anning, renown local palaeontologist.
