Pine Tree Lodge was formerly a garage, workshop and log store, converted by the host into 2 holiday cottages, using lots of materials left over in Darren's building yard to add character and charm. The lodge is located in a semi rural village of Oldbury with paddock views but is less than a mile from the Historic Market town centre of Bridgnorth, Shropshire and half a mile from the World Famous Severn Valley Railway Station.
Bridgnorth has recently been voted 'The Best Large Market Town in Britain' and has a wealth of history to offer from its ruined castle to its vernacular railway linking Low Town to High Town, plus many old pubs and restaurants. Also, the renowned World Heritage Town of Iron bridge, with many award winning museums is located only 8 miles away.
If you feel a little more energetic then take a walk down through the woods to the River Severn (0.5 mile) via Daniels Mill, the UK's largest working water wheel. Then along the river into low town for a pint! Or go fish, take a canoe trip or pedal up Cycle Route 45, located just 200 metres from The Lodge. Play many impressive golf courses, or walk the Stretton Hills for more energetic walkers within 30 mins drive.
I'm Darren a Bridgnorth boy born and bred, and run the 2 holiday cottages with 'Super Cheryl' our Housekeeper and chief organizer. Sometimes my wife Kate and daughter Alice lend a hand. I live behind the cottages so am around if you have any questions or queries. Just knock our door or call my mobile any time during your stay.
I'm a builder in the day so have converted the old garage, workshop and log store to holiday cottages myself using up a lot of old bits n bobs out of my yard to add a bit of charm, cosiness & character. As a local lad, I love to share all that my home town and county has to offer with guests. And can advise on the current good places to eat and drink depending on your likes.
I like outdoor activities in particular rugby and horse riding. Unfortunately getting a bit delicate for those sports now so stick to cycling and walking mainly. There are some great cycling and walking routes around Shropshire I can share if you like hills! Kate and Alice keep horses in the paddocks either side of the Lodge, who are quite partial to the odd carrot (the horses that is)!
My aim is for guests to have a comfortable stay, enjoy the local area & leave fully relaxed!
Bridgnorth is a very historic market town, with a ruined castle and grounds, a funicular railway between low and high town and lots of old buildings to see with differing architectural styles. There are walks along the lovely River Severn in low town, and lots of wonderful pubs and restaurants to choose from with differing types of local ales! One of the most popular attractions is the Severn Valley Railway which runs from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster through some beautiful countryside. And the station is an easy 10 minute walk from the lodge.
We are just 200metres from National cycle route 45 which can be hilly one way and flat along the riverside track to Ironbridge the other way.
There is a lovely walk from the door down through the woods to the River Severn via Daniels Mill, the UK's largest working water wheel. You can follow the River along in to Low Town and up the vernacular railway for a pub lunch and a pint! Lots of dog friendly pubs in Bridgnorth. For the more hardened walkers the Streeton Hills are less than 30 min drive away. There are lots of National Trust treasures and museums to visit in the area too!
