Castle Beams is a luxurious Grade II Listed converted barn retaining the historic elements of the original building, which dates from the 17th century, with a comfortable, high-spec and modern interior. The property is in the curtilage of a picture-postcard cottage, The Old Granary, where the owners live, but is completely separate and very private. Castle Beams gets its name from the two identical large oak beams within the property which are of "high status" and are thought to have probably been "upcycled" from the ruined castle in the field opposite when it was destroyed in 1644 during the English Civil War !
The accommodation, which is all on one level, is very spacious with 2 large double bedrooms with king size beds, each of which has a beautiful en suite bathroom with both a bath and a walk-in shower. The living area is open plan and comprises a lounge area, a dining section, breakfast island and fully-fitted superbly equipped kitchen which has everything.
The temperature is controlled throughout the accommodation by underfloor heating, providing the perfect ambient temperature at all times, and there is also a modern flame-effect fire for the coldest of winter nights.
Originally from London and Manchester respectively we lived in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire for the last 30-odd years, raising two children, before deciding to have a change of lifestyle. After a prolonged search for the right kind of property, we fell in love with The Old Granary and moved to Hopton Castle in January 2020, just before the pandemic broke.
Our dream was to have a pretty house, with an opportunity for a holiday-let and some space to raise a few animals, maybe hens and a few alpacas, possibly even a donkey, in time.
Work commenced in January 2021 on converting the derelict barn into an attractive short-term home for anyone who came to stay, whether family, friends or paying guests.
The holiday let finally went live with our first guests in early-April 2022 linking up with a different holiday company and so far it has been a great success, with many interesting guests passing through. We are delighted to say that we were awarded the 'Customer Choice' accreditation in both of our first 2 years, with a 10/10 rating.
Whether your passion is walking, cycling, history, shopping, enjoying fine food and wine.... the area around Hopton Castle makes the perfect base.
Castle Beams overlooks what is left of the medieval Hopton Castle, and is in the grounds of The Old Granary which is 400+ years old. Originally part of Lower House Farm, Castle Beams was probably a Byre, housing cattle, and later the stables for the farm, constructed in the second half of the 17th century.
The property lies at the centre of the hamlet, which is full of historic, listed buildings from the 15th to 17th centuries. As well as the castle ruins there is a pretty, small Victorian church in the village. Even the ex-public phone box, housing the defibrillator, is a listed building!
The Titterhill which rises to the south is owned by the Forestry Commission and is full of cycling tracks, which attract people from all over the country, and there are many footpaths criss-crossing the area.
Leintwardine , about 4 miles away, is the nearest sizeable village, with two pubs, a fish and chip shop, a petrol station with a small shop and a very good butchers.
Historic Ludlow is within easy reach, with many restaurants and local shops
