Local Attractions There are plenty of things to do and see on the north coast during your stay, many of them involve walking so it is advisable to bring appropriate clothing and footwear. The Giant’s Causeway - our most popular attraction, definitely worth a visit and to walk on past the stones and up the Shepherd’s steps onto the headland above to a path that brings you back to the car park. Visit for a walk outside 9-5 is best to avoid bus tours and often encompasses fantastic sunrise/sets. There is an excellent National Trust owned and run visitor centre, also worth visiting. From here about 3 miles by road and 4.6 walk by the headland which is superb. Alternatively park in Bushmills and use free shuttle bus or walk via the tram path on the far side of the River Bush which is about 2.5 miles. Carrick-a-rede rope bridge  - Another hugely popular National Trust property which should be experienced. Best go early to secure a place as numbers visiting now mean that time slots are given to cross the bridge. Once across you can spend as much time on the small island as you like before returning. Views are spectacular and after you come back you can drive on up the road towards Ballycastle to view where you have been from Portaneevy viewing point and car park. From here about 5 miles by road, can also be walked by cliffs and beaches but this will take a few hours to complete (well worth it if you have time). The Old Bushmills Distillery - Oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world and the tour is great (particularly if the weather is not). You get to see the actual plant in operation and get to taste some of the very special produce - love the smell of this place too! 3.5 miles from here. Whitepark Bay - One of our most beautiful beaches and features on Game of Thrones. Well worth a walk, usually very quiet and there are small harbours accessible from each end Port Bradden to the West and Ballintoy to the East though each of these can also be got to by road. The beach is 2 miles from here towards Ballycastle on the way to the rope bridge. The Dark Hedges - straight avenue featuring ancient beech trees and another hugely popular tourist attraction thanks to Game of Thrones, recommend visiting early morning or evening to avoid the coaches and day trippers! Approx 8-10 miles from us at Bregagh Road Stranocum via Ballinlea Road. Dunluce Castle - Ancient ruin with a lot of history but still in good order and the tour is with doing. Views along the coast are amazing. Approx 6 miles from here towards Portrush. Rathlin Island - sparsely populated island accessible by boat from Ballycastle. Again great for walking and has 3 lighthouses and a bird sanctuary where puffins come to nest but you would need a full day for this. Boat tickets can be pre booked online in advance. There are many other beaches within a few miles, also the seafronts of Portrush (9miles to the west) and Ballycastle (8 miles to the East) are great, though a bit busier. Both have harbours and excellent coffee shops and restaurants. Bushmills also has a number of really good places to eat, the multi award winning Bushmills Inn and Tartine at the Distillers Arms to name a couple. You will also find all the shops you will need for your stay in Bushmills (3.5 miles west) in the Co-op and Centra (incl off licence for wine/beer etc), and excellent butchers featuring locally sourced meat - the steak from Bushmills Meat Centre is really good! Hope this helps and if there is anything specific you would like further information on please get in touch. Regards Lorna & Tony Bayview Farm Cottages
