Tracebridge Cottage dates from the early 17th century and is a special place. The accommodation is cosy and comfortable. The oldest parts of the cottage are over 350 years old. Originally two or three dwellings known as the Old Inn. In a former life the pantry was the Inn tap room and the garden was part of a cider apple orchard. Old Inn would have been a popular venue for the local slate quarrymen and sawmill workers. After a kitchen fire in the 1970s much of the slate roof and upper floor were rebuilt, hence a mixture of old and new features. A thatch and 17th century timbers were found beneath the damaged slate roof. Tracebridge Cottage was a holiday home in the 1990's and in need of refurbishment. It has been lovingly updated and restored since 2004.
Hello. I am a retired health and social care professional. Member of a community choir and previously of a walking group, I enjoy (singing, walking and) living in an environment which harmonises with nature. I relish the peace and tranquillity of rural life and love music, spoken word radio 4 and the visual arts. My hobbies include cooking, writing, gardening and mosaics. Some of my happiest moments are quiet and meditative with other great times spent with my cat, hens, friends neighbours and family. The farmhouse kitchen lends itself to food, fun and conversation. Guests have a dedicated dining room and sitting room. I enjoy cooking and hospitality and aim to create a comfortable, easy going space for people to unwind, de-stress and relax. LGBTI and child friendly. I look forward to welcoming you all.
Tracebridge is a peaceful hamlet found nestling in the Somerset countryside. This is a friendly community and part of a network of 10 rural parishes on the Somerset Devon borders. The area is a haven for wildlife including otters, bats and a wide variety of birds. The River Tone can just be heard in the valley. Once past Tracebridge the lane rises to the village of Ashbrittle with its lovely church and famous ancient yew. Just 5 miles from Wellington (M5 Junction 26) and between Taunton in Somerset and Tiverton in Devon, Tracebridge is conveniently situated for areas of outstanding natural beauty such as The Quantocks, The Blackdowns and Exmoor National Park. A great location for walkers or cyclists plus given the proximity of the A38 and M5 an ideal location for those touring the South West by car. North or South Coastal beaches generally reached in 60-90 minutes. Local attractions include Cothay Manor House and Gardens, Ashbrittle Ancient Yew, Sheppys Farm and Cider shop, Bodilly Pottery, The Globe Inn at Appley. Stawley Village Shop and Tea room.. Maps, leaflets and other publications on local attractions, places of interest, walks and cycle routes available.
