Anka Lodge is a charming place located in the high south of the San Pedro River, in the Ayllu de Quitor of San Pedro de Atacama, just 3 km from the center (5 minutes by car).
The ancient Algarrobos and Chañares trees on the property provide shade and coolness to the area, blending with the vibrant greenery of an orchard that hosts wild species like asparagus, celery, and plantain plants among lemon trees, quinces, pear trees, fig trees, pomegranates, prickly pears, and table grape vines.
The singing of various birds in the mornings, along with the crowing of roosters, the evening breeze, the bleating of some sheep, the sound of crickets at night, as well as the noise of the river when its flow increases, and the occasional braying of a wild donkey trotting in the neighboring fields at midnight, create the magic of a cozy rural lodge in a beautiful oasis in the Atacama Desert. All of this is enhanced by the warm and professional attention of its owners who live on-site, a family consisting of 2 parents, a girl, a guard dog, and a playful kitten.
The perfect darkness of the night invites you to a short walk in the area to gaze at the impressive sky with all its stars above, as well as to enjoy a stroll through the orchard in good company to share the stars or have a simple drink on the terraces overlooking the orchard to observe the stars through the tree branches.
The property is very close to the Pukará de Quitor, Valle de Catarpe, Garganta del Diablo, and other hiking and cycling trails. Anka Lodge is the right place for those seeking rest and silence after an exhausting day of travel or excursions in the area, the ideal spot for those looking to disconnect from routine and connect with simplicity.
As Anka Lodge is undergoing constant renovations, before completing all the beautification work to which we have been dedicated since March 2023, as hosts, we focus on what we can control: the quality of service and attention, ensuring that our work does not disturb the tranquility of our guests.
From the moment a potential reservation contacts us, we make sure to provide all the necessary information for the trip and the stay itself. We try to accommodate all requests whenever possible and also take care of organizing transfers to/from the airport, on-site excursions, and bicycle rentals offered at the lodge.
Living on the same property, we handle all the details almost unnoticed by guests when it's not necessary. We maintain constant communication with them via WhatsApp, calls, or text messages to coordinate anything required and provide any assistance they may need.
It's worth mentioning that we are very friendly and professional, and we appreciate suggestions as much as constructive criticism to continuously improve.
I, Ani, am a native Spanish speaker, fluent in English, and have basic proficiency in Portuguese. I am an entrepreneur in the tourism accommodation sector, with another well-established business under the same brand in the heart of San Pedro de Atacama. I hold a tourism technical degree and a diploma in hospitality management from abroad.
We always hope that all our guests leave with the feeling of being treated like they are in their own home and that they want to return or recommend us!
The location of the Lodge is basically privileged due to be at just 650 meters to the magnificent ancient archaeological site "Pukará de Quitor," a pre-Inca construction dating back to the 12th century, which is considered a national monument. At the top, you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view of the Andes, Valle de Marte/Muerte, and Salar de Atacama.
Between the Lodge and approximately 8 km further inland along the San Pedro River into the Salt Mountain Range, you can find the Catarpe Valley. Here, you can access hiking and cycling trails through the Devil's Throat, either by bike or car.
On the north side of the Lodge, there is a range of small mountains offering short trails to the top. From there, you can enjoy a complete view of San Pedro and its surroundings, the Atacama Salt Flat, the Andes Mountain Range, and the green Catarpe Valley contrasting with the orange cliffs and dunes that mark the beginning of the Valle de Marte/Muerte. Ideal for enjoying a beautiful sunset for free.
