Just 1hr 50min drive from Sydney or a 1hr 30min from Canberra, Wildernest is perfect for a quick weekend escape or an impromptu midweek getaway. Located just 20 mins off the Hume Highway, the landscape quickly changes to country roads, thick bushland and charming local villages. You’ll need to travel along a dirt road for about 5km from either Tallong or Wingello to reach Wildernest and then drive through the property. You don’t necessarily need a 4WD, just drive slowly, mind the potholes and any wildlife that may be out and about.

We are a family of four that escaped the city for a place that offered a slower pace with more space. We’ve loved every aspect of this transition – fresh air, room for our boys to run wild and space to grow our own produce. We have created Wildernest as a slow stay experience. A place for you to unplug, unwind and to take a break from it all. A totally off-the-grid escape and one that is eco-friendly and treads lightly on its beautiful surrounds, but has all the modern comforts. Wildernest is based in the beautiful Southern Highlands region of NSW, just a stones throw away from both Sydney and Canberra.

Wildernest is a wilderness retreat – providing the opportunity to relax, unwind and forget the nine to five. Your boots will get dirty and you will be surrounded by wilderness and wildlife… kangaroos, wombats and waking to the sound of twittering of birds. Hopefully you’ll have a chance to explore your surrounds – be it bushwalking, mountain biking or just wandering around the property. There are also plenty of other creative and foodie pursuits in and around the region. You’ll find hatted restaurants, foraging trips, weaving workshops and wine tastings. Many of these need to be booked in advance.
