Brigitta and I love the area we live in and are delighted to share it with our guests. We lead active lives, keeping up with an extensive garden (fruit, vegetables, and ornamental), and making the most of our beautiful local environment. We enjoy cycling, kayaking, and time at the beach, a favourite place for our grandchildren when they visit. Our home and the guest wing displays our art collection, much of it acquired as we have traveled around Australia, and some of it produced by us at home.
We are working towards achieving a highly sustainable lifestyle, and are largely self-sufficient for water and power, and increasingly self-reliant for much of our food. We are glad to share this interest with our guests.
East Coast Tasmania is known for its' fine foods and wines and its' incredible natural environment. A major local attraction is Maria Island, a former penal settlement, about 11km off the coast. Maria Island is accessed by ferry, leaving regularly each day from the nearby township of Triabunna. It is a very popular destination for walkers, cyclists, and people interested in early Tasmanian history. It abounds with wildlife (wombats, kangaroos, Tasmanian devils, etc.) and has many remains of the original penal settlement, including fully intact buildings. Maria is also known for its' unusual geology and has magnificent natural features including the fossil cliffs at the Northern end of the island, and the 'Painted Cliffs' on the Eastern side.
There are many beautiful walks along the coast (cliff-top walks, riverside walks and forest walks) and we are happy to share our knowledge of each of them.
The Spring Bay Maritime Museum and Art Gallery in Triabunna also provides a great local attraction.
