Tumut is an area of natural beauty. The township has a number of beautiful parks for the children to play, along with a wonderful river walk along the Tumut River. Swimming pool for the summer months for all age groups. We have 5 local pubs, with a choice of Thai, Indian, Chinese and Japanese foods along with Mcdonalds, Subway and KFC for the kids.
Whilst visiting the region make sure you visit Sugar Pine Walk, The Aboretum and Buddong Falls. Plus other must see attractions are:
Blowering Dam is where Ken Warby set the world water speed record and is just 10 minutes from Elm Cottage. Here you can go water skiing, windsurfing and it is a great spot fishing enthusiasts with rainbow trout, brown trout, golden perch, cod and refin to be caught.
Kosciusko National Park is 690,000 hectares of diverse natural landscape. Bushwalking, mountain bike riding, picnicking, fishing, caving, car touring, and canoeing are just some of the activities you can undertake within the Park. Include a visit to Yarrangobilly Caves and discover some of the most beautiful and ornate caves in Australia. Take a guided or self guided cave tour, then take a swim in the thermal pool (a pleasant 27 degrees celcius). The caves are open every day except Christmas Day.
Go Horseriding for one,two or three hour rides or take a half or full days ride through the foothills of the Snowy Mountains enjoying the natural scenery and wildlife along the way.
Mt. Selwyn snowfields are just an hour from the property for those skiing enthusiasts. Mt. Selwyn provides breathtaking winter scenery and some of the best ski runs Mother Nature has. It provides a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, service that makes you feel at home and totally modern facilities. Mt. Selwyn is tucked away in the northern end of the Kosciusko National Park and it offers great cross country skiing with a large choice of established trails to international standards from 2.5kms up to 15kms., alpine skiing, toboganning and snowboarding.
Talbingo just 30 minutes drive from the property is the birthplace of famous Australian author Miles Franklin. It is a picturesque township nestled by the shore of lake Jourama. It is also home to the Tumut 3 Power Station, the largest of the power stations in the Snowy Mountains Scheme, and visitors are welcome to view the static display or take a tour of the power station.
Batlow 30 minutes away is famous for its apple, cherry and stonefruit orchards plus its large native and softwood forests which not only add visual appeal to the area, but like orcharding contribute significantly to the town's economy. The Hume & Hovell Lookout provides spectacular views of Blowering Valley and Lake.
Adelong a heritage town famous for its goldming past is just 40 minutes from Elm Cottage. In Autumn & Spring artists flock to the township to capture on canvas and film the colours of stately trees plus the diverse beauty of the hills, valleys and country properties.
Activities within the region are numerous ranging from golf, fishing, bushwalking, mountain bike riding, canoeing and kayaking. You can even go along to Air Escape and try the ultimate freedom of powered hang gliding.
The Tumut Region offers something for everyone year round, or alternatively you can just stay at the property, relax and unwind, listen to the sounds of the river , view the birdlife, see an echnida, platypus and wombat in their natural habitat , take in the natural beauty of the Goobarragandra Valley whilst recharging your batteries.
