Set in Dali, 4.6 km from Goddess of Mercy Temple, Blue Sea Hotel offers accommodation with a shared lounge, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant. The owner really looked after us well. Our stay was extremely comfortable. We booked the room with two beds and it was spacious and clean. They provide simple breakfast, it was yummy and homely. Location was superb, close to bike hire and China's tuktuk. We rented bikes based on the owner's recommendation for two consecutive days with great value. Two adult bikes and two kids bikes. The only thing I will note is that the shower does not drain quickly enough (so it pools), but this is very minor and did not impact our experience at all. At first glance, we thought it would be difficult to get food. But this is not the case. There are many eateries available within a short walking distance. Download Amap and search for restaurants near me and you will find hidden gems. One of which passion fruit fish.

Set by Erhai lakeside, Hotel Indigo Dali Erhai offers accommodation just a 10-minute walk from Erhai Park. Free WiFi is available in all areas and the property boasts a fitness centre. The location is not near to the old town, it takes around 15 mins by taxi to it. However its view of this hotel is fantastic, I really enjoyed the sunset view from my balcony.

Set in Dali Old Town, Dali Old Courtyard-Style Boutique Hotel is 50 metres from Renmin Road and steps from Dali Catholic Cathedral. Cangshan is 3 km away and Erhai Lake is 5 km away. The rustic look and feel of ancient Chinese house with a courtyard. Nice renovation with modern convenience that retained the ancient look. Very friendly and accommodation and staff, plus a room dedicated to display Chinese culture - where one can learn calligraphy and guqin (a plucked seven-string Chinese musical instrument).

Only a short 1-minute stroll from Shuhe Ancient Town, The Bivou features accommodation in local and modern styles combined together. Not really sure where to start. One of the nicest B&B style hotels I’ve stayed anywhere in the world. Staff go above and beyond everyday and the ambience of the place is so relaxing it’s hard to stay standing. It’s just off the Main Street in the quieter of the “old towns” Shuhe, but it’s so quiet you wouldn’t even know it’s there. Beautiful surrounds and convenient to literally everywhere. Literally, just stay here: way more personal than any of the bigger hotels in the area I’m sure.
