A City of Two Halves

With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.

Overseeing Budapest from its vantage point on Castle Hill is Buda Castle. Spectacularly lit at night, it offers the best views across this attractive city steeped in World Heritage.     Budapest is a historic city with beautiful architecture and great diversity. There is always an activity to do or a place to visit. The ruin bars (i.e. Szimpla) are a must go to, and sites like Buda Castle, Margrit Island and Fisherman's Bastion are gorgeous. The city situates so many cultures, which means there's a wide range of international foods and people. Be sure to try local Peksegs and cafes, with a quick google search you can find them all around with a variety of pastries, desserts and coffees. Feel free to explore too, there's a few underground hidden gems, however, it's safer to look at reviews online first as some of the places are tourist traps. Also, it's good to know a bit of Hungarian, but most people speak English. It's a lively city, but remember to respect the locals, they are constantly accommodating tourists, so that can be overwhelming. Transportation is also excellent around the city, once you have a pass which is easy to access on the BudapestGO App, the buses and metro take you anywhere.

    We loved Budapest! Would visit again.

    We loved Budapest! Would visit again. It's clean, safe and has an olde world charm. It's not as hectic and busy like some of the other cities that are just over-run with tourists. Everything is well organised. Even the taxi service from the airport is exceptionally efficient. Budapest surprised and delighted us! Great restaurants and coffee shops! And some good shopping too.

    Budapest is easily my favorite town in Europe, and I've been to Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna and Paris. It is a beautiful city with lots of thingfs to see, the old architecture is well preserved and one of my favorite parts of Budapest. The nightlife is also great, mostly focused around a few streets in the most tourist-dense part of the city. The parliament is the most beautfil building I've ever seen, and the views from the Buda castle are stunning.

    You can tell Budapest was part of the Habsburg empire. It is full of great buildings. Most of them in need of attention. You must take advantage of the hot springs . Various baths are available but the famous Gellert Baths are now closed for renovation. Bonus- if you are over 65 you travel free on the city's efficient public transport

    So much history so many things to see and do for all varieties of travelers, young and old. Definitely recommend a visit. My favourite was the thermal spa. Easy to get around with public transport buses, underground and trams also plenty of taxis

    A lovely clean hotel. Room spacious, bathrobe and slippers were a great addition. Reception staff were very friendly. Breakfast was included, had plenty of choice. Hot dishes varied daily. Slightly away from the City Centre, but easy to walk into. If not as mobile then Uber works well. Would definitely recommend, if I go back to Budapest, then I'll have no hesitation in booking again.

    Good place to crash for the night. Nice cosy little room even if it's not the most comfortable. Location while not in the city centre at least is on Metro line 3 and on a railway line to Budapest Nyugati and the East of Hungary and the 200E bus route to the airport. Also good clear instructions on checking in out of hours.
